I really like the coloring of the wood tones; construction of 2 cabinets was a 7 hour process...directions were a tad vague at times (all pictorial)...All parts plus extras were included. I am a little disappointed with the stability of the cabinets, drawers rub if you have weighted files in them, but overall, I am satisfied with the product for the pricing; much more attractive in my home office than the metal one's I had.

This file cabinet is great. It's sturdy and it looks better than the picture. The Brushed Maple has dark brushed metal handles that are quite elegant. It looks right at home next to my antique furniture, which is what I was looking for.
In terms of putting it together: It took me about 4 hours. It was like putting together a giant model. The directions are all pictorial but very good. The one instance that the directions weren't clear were the slide rails for the drawers. It wasn't clear that the slide rails needed to come apart. The center part of the rail needs to be removed and then screwed on the sides of the drawers while the 2 main pieces stay together and go on the inner walls of the cabinet. After I figured that out, everything went smooth. The parts were all very precisely measured and fit together amazingly well. The screws etc were really well documented (although they forgot the two little screws for the lock.) In every case there was an extra screw added. I enjoyed the whole experience. Whoever designed this cabinet deserves a round of applause!

Rated 2 out of 5by HomeOfficeMaven If you like anchoring furniture to your walls...
I was looking to replace my old beat up steel commercial filing cabinet with something more attractive. The brushed maple finish caught my eye so I bought it at an Office Depot store closing several months ago and finally got around to putting it together. I discovered that the glue had dried out and the location of the drawer slides in the diagram is not the same as the actual location on the MDF sides. Still I managed to put it together by myself in less than 5 hours. The most difficult part of the assembly was figuring out how to disassemble the drawer slide rails as instructed.
While assembling the filing cabinet I learned that it came with "safety belts" and molly plugs to anchor it to the wall. The filing cabinet comes with four 1/2 inch plastic discs with nails that you're supposed to pound into the bottom of the cabinet. When you put the plastic discs on the bottom, it makes the safety belts and wall anchoring a necessity. I ended up removing them to improve the stability of the filing cabinet. Without the discs the wall anchoring seems unnecessary unless you have a habit of opening more than one drawer at a time.
Another discovery I made that I didn't know when I purchased the filing cabinet is that the drawers aren't meant for weight bearing. The drawers can handle only hanging file folders. Despite what other reviews say, you can put legal size in the drawers, but they have to be placed sideways in the drawers. There's much less space for legal size documents and the filing cabinet is not as deep as a commercial filing cabinet.
The other disappointing thing about this cabinet is that the finish scratches easily. I put it together on the concrete floor in my basement and ended up with a few scratches before I even finished putting it together. Still, if you're trying to decide between the Dawson brushed maple and the Magellan cherry, the brushed maple finish looks better.
The lock on the cabinet is truly pointless. I was surprised to discover that the back of the filing cabinet isn't a piece of MDF. It's cardboard. I'd expect that for a bookshelf but not for a filing cabinet. If someone wants to get into the filing cabinet the lock won't stop them when they can just pry off the cardboard on the back.

Rated 5 out of 5by Amanda Solid, beautiful, and a deal
This is an assemble-yourself piece. It arrives in a heavy 100 lb. box. Putting it together is easy, but time consuming. Prepare to spend 3-4 hours putting it together. The most difficult part I found was how to attach the rails (on which the drawers slide) to the side walls of the cabinet. My advice on how to do this - take out the center slide, extend the middle slide, secure two screws, then push the middle slide in and secure the third screw. The finished product is beautiful and a great deal for the price. Please note that the base of the shelves do not support any weight, so all drawers can only be used to hang files, not to store items.
